WHAT IS “RECEIVE”?
Literally, the word “receive” means to acquire or come into possession of something.
“For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.” (Romans 5:17).
Literally, the word “receive” means to acquire or come into possession of something. It derives from the Greek word “lambano” which means to actively take possession of something; to catch or take a hold of something; to seize it and make it yours. The word doesn’t suggest passive acceptance but the conscious and deliberate act of reaching out to take possession of something, to apprehend something and personalise it.
Thus, in context of the scripture above, to receive abundance of grace means to reach out and take a hold of God’s grace in overflowing measure; to seize it and make it yours. You don’t wait for God to put it on you; rather, with your faith, you consciously and deliberately reach out and take possession of grace! You grab it and make it your present-hour possession. You’re not supposed to wait or merely expect a miracle, you “lambano”— reach out and TAKE your miracle.
