(Learn To Worship The Lord From Your Spirit)

TO THE BIBLE
Ephesians 5:19 KJV
“Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord”

LET’S TALK

“Spiritual songs” in the scripture above really doesn’t refer to the spiritual content of the songs, but that the songs are inspired songs of the Spirit. Apostle Paul was talking about this when he said, “For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. What is the outcome then? I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the mind also; I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the mind also” (1 Corinthians 14:14-15 NASB).

When you sing with the spirit, you sing in other tongues. These songs come out of your spirit, not from your head or understanding. It’s similar to the way you release your tongue to the Holy Spirit to pray in tongues, only that this time you’re singing and worshipping the Lord in other tongues. Jesus said, “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24 KJV). Singing and worshipping the Lord in the understanding is cool, but you should ascend higher: sing songs and worship the Lord from your spirit because that’s deeper fellowship. Worshipping in the spirit is climatic and higher!

The latter part of our opening scripture says, “…Singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.” Your songs of the spirit aren’t for the guy or lady close to you. No one may like the way the songs sound, but you’re not singing to anyone; you’re singing to the Lord (1 Corinthians 14:2)! There’s a divine exchange in this kind of worship: as your spirit passes words in the Spirit to God, the Holy Ghost passes information to your spirit.

When you finish such sessions of fellowship with the Spirit, you’re literally on top of the world; no challenge moves you, because your spirit has gained the mastery! At that point, you know, without a doubt in your spirit, that you’re more than a conqueror and a victor for life! This is Christianity: it’s the life of the spirit, lived from the inside out!

UNDERSTANDING THE RULES OF PRAYER;

And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint (Luke 18:1).

Why does God want us to always pray? It’s because it’s His intention to always answer our prayers. This should excite you to always pray; to take advantage of the privilege and opportunity of prayer, which, essentially, is a Spirit-to-spirit communication in divine fellowship.

Sadly, what many know about prayer is asking God for things. They see prayer as an avenue to beg or “force” God to do something for them, as though He’s unwilling. But that’s not the purpose of prayer. God isn’t against us; so, when we pray, we’re not trying to convince Him to do something He’s not inclined to do. Rather, we’re siding with Him in bringing His will to pass.

Furthermore, the Bible shows that there’re different kinds of prayer, with different rules governing each kind. Most Christians are acquainted with the prayer of faith. The prayer of faith is quick; it’s the kind of prayer you can pray on the go. But there’re lots of issues and challenges in this world that won’t go away by the prayer of faith. Such situations or issues require some passionate supplication for the desired change to take place. We read about this kind of prayer in James 5:16-18 (AMPC); it’s heartfelt and continued.

You may say, “But prayer is prayer”; no, prayer isn’t just prayer. You can’t apply the rules for the prayer of faith for the prayer of intercession; it won’t work. It’s one of the reasons people don’t have answers to their prayers; they’re praying the wrong way about their situation.

If, for example, any football player other than the team’s goalkeeper, within his own penalty area, deliberately handles the ball when in play, such a player will be penalized. The referee won’t overlook the infringement, because you can’t apply handball or basketball rules to football.

Study the Word to know, and apply the right rules for the different kinds of prayers and you’ll surely have results. PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you for the privilege and opportunity of prayer. I declare that your Word grows mightily and prevails around the world, and that the wicked acts, schemes, policies and stratagems of Satan are frustrated. Even now, I affirm by the Holy Ghost, that the earth is being filled with the knowledge of your glory, as the waters cover the sea, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

PRAY WITH UNDERSTANDING ;
(Get To Know Who You Are Praying To)

TO THE BIBLE Matthew 18:19

“Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.”

LET’S TALK➡
There’s such a thing as praying with understanding, just as we can praise God with understanding. Now, this is different from praying or praising with “the” understanding. Praying with “the” understanding is praying to God through your mind, in the language that you can understand. In other words, you’re not praying in tongues. 1 Corinthians 14:14 says, “For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.”

On the other hand, praying with understanding means, you understand the principles of that particular prayer; you’re praying according to God’s Word, and your prayer has a definite direction; you know the reason for praying as well as the result! You’re praying, knowing who you are: a joint heir with Christ and also knowing the one to whom you’re praying: the Monarch of the Universe! Consequently, you pray with reverence and in faith, confident that there’s nothing too difficult for Him to do.

In praying with understanding, you have a knowledge of who you are in Christ; you have knowledge of the Father, and you have the knowledge of the truth that without faith it’s impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). In addition, you know that without the Word of God in operation, your prayer is empty; so you pray the Word. Even when you speak in tongues, you’re aware that you’re not speaking to men but to God; you’re speaking mysteries concerning the situation: “For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries” (1 Corinthians 14:2).

This is how you pray when there’s a “matter.” When something is happening in your life or in your country that’s not consistent with the will of God, pray with understanding and you’ll have results.

PREVAIL FIRST IN PRAYER BY REV. (DR.) CHRIS OYAKHILOME.

When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them (Acts 5:33 ).

In our opening scripture, Peter had ministered the Gospel to a group of people, and rather than give their hearts to Christ, the people wanted to kill him. That’s why it’s important that before you go out to preach, you intercede for the people you’re going to be ministering to; pray that your message will be accepted and won’t just be a witness against them.

It brings to mind the experience of Stephen in the Book of Acts. He ministered a powerful sermon, full of excellent theology and history. Yet when he was done, the Bible says the people “…were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth” (Acts 7:54). They shut their ears to his message and ran upon him to kill him, and eventually stoned him to death.

Just because the message is great doesn’t mean people will be moved enough to give their hearts to Christ; they didn’t in Stephen’s case. So, before you embark on any evangelical mission or outreach programme, prevail first in prayer, because it’s about the souls of men and the impact the message will have on them, resulting in their salvation.

When you intercede like that, the love of God in you wells up, striving against sin, Satan, and the forces of darkness, and the souls of men are rescued from evil. At that moment, you’re God’s champion; the deliverer.

When you’ve succeeded in bringing them out of that darkness in the spirit, you’ll know it. Then you’re ready to go. Your message may just be for five or twenty minutes, it doesn’t matter; while you’re at it, they’ll be getting convicted and crying out for salvation. This is important. Learn to prevail first in prayer.

(Understand God’s Instructions On Prayer)

TO THE BIBLE John 14:13-14
“And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.”

LET’S TALK➡
There are people who pray to “Jesus” in the Name of Jesus; some even pray to angels! That is so wrong! There’s a way God expects you to pray, and if you don’t understand it, you’ll muddle up your prayers and never receive answers. Praying to get results requires that you understand the place of the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit, and the angels.

Jesus said in John 16:23, “In that day you will not question Me about anything. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you”(NASB). So it’s the Father that answers our prayers. We’ve been granted the power of attorney to use the Name of Jesus. When we make requests of the Father in the Name of Jesus, it’s as though Jesus Himself were praying. However, the Holy Spirit is the one who makes it happen; He’s the power of God. He’s the doer, the performer of the works of God.

What about the angels? They’re servants of God who carry out assignments the Holy Spirit wants them to. Furthermore, they’re ministering spirits sent to minister for us, the heirs of salvation (Hebrews 1:14). How wonderful it is to realise you can enjoy an awesome ministry of the Holy Spirit, and initiate angelic activities as you pray in the Name of Jesus!

I want to pray for you now; I believe it’s God’s will and desire to bless you and to heal you.

Father, in the Name of the Lord Jesus, I pray for everyone who is under the influence of this programme right now; I pray for you to touch their sick bodies and make them whole. I command sickness to leave their bodies, that they are healed right now. Be healed in your body, be healed in your bones, be cleansed in your blood, in the Name of Jesus. I command that deafness to go in the Name of Jesus. Yes, that deafness leaves you in the Name of Jesus.

Words of Knowledge: Someone with a growth on the back of your neck, you’re healed in Jesus’ Name; you’re healed. Yes, be healed in your heart; be healed. I command arthritis to leave you, in the Name of Jesus, that you be made well, that stomach pain to go, in the Name of Jesus. Yes, be healed! I rebuke the fibroids in the Name of Jesus; be healed right now by the power of the Holy Ghost, in Jesus mighty Name! Now, whatever miracle you are expecting from Him, receive that miracle! Be blessed in Jesus Name! Amen. God bless you.

STAND ON THE WORD OF GOD FOR YOURSELF

Exciting Benefits of Prayer,
When you understand the importance and higher purposes of prayer, you’ll always be willing and excited to pray, especially in other tongues. One of the beautiful things the Holy Spirit has done in our lives as God’s children is to give us the ability to speak in other tongues. When we speak in tongues, the utterance, the words we speak, aren’t man-made but from the Lord. Moreover, we aren’t speaking to men but to God:

When you pray in tongues, you’re in fellowship with the Father; you’re communicating with Him through the Spirit in a heavenly language. What a blessing that is!

Praying in tongues will keep you more “fit” spiritually, and responsive to the guidance and promptings of the Spirit. The more time you spend in fellowship with the Lord, praying in the Holy Ghost, the more His character and personality are revealed in, and manifested through you. Some are only compelled to pray when they face crises in life, and that’s not right. We’re called into fellowship with our heavenly Father; that’s what prayer, and praying, is primarily for: fellowship!

No matter how many earthly languages exist, there’re not enough words in the human vocabulary with which to adequately and accurately express yourself to God. Our human earthly vocabulary isn’t pure enough to commune with the holy God that our heavenly Father is.

That’s the reason the Holy Spirit gave us a language, pure and holy, with which to communicate in a way that’s acceptable to God: praying in other tongues. Many only know how to pray in their understanding; that is, in their native language, but that won’t take you far enough. No matter how beautiful your words are in any earthly language, and how loaded with revelation they are, they’re no match for the pure language of the Spirit.

THANK HIM AS YOU PRAY!
(Present Your Requests With Thanksgiving!),

📖TO THE BIBLE: Philippians 4:6-7

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

LET’S TALK➡
One rainy morning, Cindy woke to take her morning devotion. Instead of thanking the Lord for all the beautiful things He had done for her in the year, she complained and whined about several things she deemed unanswered: “Lord, I’m so worried about what’s going to happen in the new year for my education; I want to get into the university, will you help me?” She didn’t thank Him in anticipation of an answer after the prayer.

There’re times people pray and make requests about certain things; maybe about their family or health, or something that deeply bothers them, and it seems things aren’t changing. The missing link could be that they’re not presenting their requests and supplications with “thanksgiving.” Read our opening verse again carefully, and you’ll notice that your prayer and supplication have to be with thanksgiving. When you present your request in that manner, what follows is the peace of God that surpasses all understanding: “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7). This is remarkable! The kind of peace that people wonder at, will guard your heart and mind when you present your requests and supplications to the Lord “with thanksgiving.”

Those around you won’t understand why you can be so at peace and in control, in spite of oppositions, challenges and contrary winds that may come your way. Do you have a special request for 2019? Present your requests and supplications to the Lord, with thanksgiving. Don’t beg; don’t complain. Ask, receive, and be full of joy. Hallelujah!

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of the righteous man availeth much (James 5:16).

Sometimes, people wonder why they pray and nothing happens. They desire changes that don’t take place, and the reason is they’re not making power available for the change they desire. God shows us how to make power available for change in our opening verse.

The Amplified Classic translation explains it more; it says, “Confess to one another therefore your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offenses, your sins) and pray [also] for one another, that you may be healed and restored [to a spiritual tone of mind and heart]. The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working].” The prayer that changes things has the peculiar quality of being earnest, heartfelt and continued. That means it’s not done casually; you don’t pray for only two minutes and go away, no; you press in your prayer, and take a hold of your desire with your spirit.

This kind of prayer is done with much passion and emotion; therefore, you may have to separate yourself from everybody and from everything else. Do this as you prepare for the New Year. Pray in tongues passionately and fervently until you receive the prophetic word in your heart.

When that power is made available through prayer, go ahead and give the Word; it’ll come to pass. Make tremendous power available for the things you want to do and experience—your goals and desires—the changes you want to see in your ministry, family, finances, job, academics, or other areas of your life in the coming year. Hallelujah!

PRAYER

Dear Father, I declare that I’m making progress, because you’ve granted me the ability to cause changes in my world and in circumstances through prayer. I’m fully synchronised with the Spirit, to know and walk in your perfect will always, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

YOU RULE ON HIS BEHALF

You Rule On His Behalf

The LORD will send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thy enemies (Psalm 110:2).

Talking about the Lord Jesus, the Bible says, “…he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet” (1 Corinthians 15:25). This isn’t about Him reigning in heaven, but in the earth. Legally, God has put all things under His feet. Ephesians 1:22 says, “And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church.” So, Jesus is the head over all things.

Isaiah 9:6 says, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder….” Notice, it doesn’t say the government shall be upon His head, but upon His shoulder. Jesus is the head; the government is upon His shoulder, that is, His body—the Church. Therefore, when the Psalmist declared, “The LORD will let your power reach out from Zion, and you will rule over your enemies” (Psalm 110:2 CEV), it’s through the Church—His body that He rules. He rules through us.

As a member of the body of Christ, you rule on His behalf. Even if you thought you were the smallest toe in the feet, you’re still above all things, because you’re seated with Christ, “far above all principality and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come” (Ephesians 1:21). Glory to His Name forever!

What this means is that in these last days, as a child of God, you’re expected to arise and take your place of dominion, and reign in the Name of Jesus over circumstances. Romans 5:17 says, “…they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.” The actual Greek rendering of the word “reign” in the verse above is the verb “to king.” You’re called “to king” (reign) in life. Kings make decrees. So, speak the Word and see it happen.

The world and the fullness thereof has been given to you; so, be bold to take possession because you have the rulership. Command every contrary storm to be still in the Name of Jesus. Refuse to be sick, refuse to be poor. Be in charge and in control, winning every day. Reign and rule in life as the king that you are.

CONFESSION

I’m what God says I am. I’m a member of His body, of His flesh and of His bones, reigning, ruling, and prevailing over circumstances. By the power of God’s Spirit, I take possession of all that belongs to me in Christ, enjoying my life to the full, to the glory of His Name. Blessed be God!
