(Human Beings Are Not Your Enemies)
TO THE BIBLE: Ephesians 6:12-13 CEV
“We are not fighting against humans. We are fighting against forces and authorities and against rulers of darkness and powers in the spiritual world. So put on all the armor that God gives. Then when that evil day comes, you will be able to defend yourself. And when the battle is over, you will still be standing firm.”
LET’S TALK
I love the way the opening scripture is rendered in the New International Version: “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood…” (Ephesians 6:12 NIV). According to this verse of the Bible, the only enemy of the Christian is Satan, and he’s already defeated! As a Christian, human beings are not your enemies. In other words, stop seeing your neighbours, classmates or others around you as your enemies.
Perhaps there are certain people who have declared themselves to be your enemies. You don’t have to worry about such people. The Bible says, “When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell” (Psalm 27:2 KJV). It doesn’t say, “Pray that they should stumble and fall.” No! The fact that they declared themselves your “enemies” and decided to come against you is what guarantees their stumbling and falling.
Right in their presence, God prepares a table before you (Psalm 23:5), because He wants them to see your glory so they can change their minds and come to the brightness of your light. When you understand and accept this truth, rather than wish evil for those who have made themselves your enemies, you would feel sorry for them and pray for them.
