Speaking in an unknown tongues is a must for every Christian.
The question is “Have you received the Holy Spirit?” If yes, then you have the gift of tongues. It’s just that many lack the faith to utilise it.
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
Mark 16:17-18 KJV
That scripture just outline the characteristics of believers. Every Christian is supposed to exhibit all the signs listed above and if that is not the story of your Christian life, you need to step up. Because you are living below the standards of your specified nature in Christ Jesus.
The Bible says; “he that is born of the flesh is flesh and he that is born of the Spirit is spirit” and speaking in other tongues is a spiritual language. Remember, God is a Spirit, they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in truth.
For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.
1 Corinthians 14:2, 4 KJV
Tongue is a language of our heavenly kingdom and its not suppose to be understood by men but only God except if it is for the edification of the church. Mostly that comes with interpretation. You are a citizen of God’s kingdom, you are expected to speak in other tongues. If you claim to be a citizen of God’s Kingdom, then you must speak the language.
So should one just open up his mouth and just speak in other tongues? My answer is “Yes, according to your faith”.
We receive spiritual gift by faith and not by feelings. God is always willing to give to us. All we need to do is, just ask and you will receive.
To most Christian, the gift is there already but they are not making use of it because of unbelieve. If you don’t use the gift, God will not force it on you.
For example, I never knew I have the gift of prophecy until I started using it. Did I feel anything before i started prophesying? No, I just prophesy by faith and it was accurate. I have been using the gift since then. The more we use our spiritual gifts the more the develop in our life. What you don’t use will never develop in your life.
Just open your mouth and say “father in the name of Jesus Christ, I receive the ability to speak in other tongues” then open your mouth and speak in other tongues. At first, it will look as if its coming from your head or fabricating words from your head. Just continue, in a short while something significant will open to you. Your understanding may try to make you feel stupid and your senses may wrestle with your spirit to make nonsense out if it. Just continue speaking in other tongues, very soon your spirit will dominate your senses and from there the Holy Spirit will take over you.
For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.

Your natural senses cannot understand spiritual things because they are spiritually designed. Speaking in an unknown tongues may not make sense to your senses but it does work wonders.
If you are a Christian and you don’t speak in other tongues, I feel so sorry for you because you are missing out a lot of kingdom goodies. Forbid not to speak in other tongues but desire and use it.
Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
