LET’S TALK
Jesus went to a certain place to pray and He took with Him three of His disciples, because He wanted them to pray with Him. But they were too tired and fell asleep. He rebuked them and said, “…The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Matthew 26:41). Sadly, some folks have held on to this statement as an excuse for their weakness. They don’t realise that Jesus didn’t say this as a recommendation but an expression of regret.
Your body is not supposed to control you, because you’re a spirit being. In other words, the real “you” is a spirit and not a body. Your body is just your “house” where your spirit lives (2 Corinthians 5:1-4). This is why you should never allow it dictate how you live.
So, make up your mind this year to rule your body in all areas. Set an alarm for yourself to help you wake up to pray, and when it goes off, don’t go back to bed; just get up and pray! When it’s time to go to church, make sure you go! When it’s time to study your Bible, go ahead and do it! If you can discipline yourself to do this each day, you’ll do it each month, and by the end of this year, you’ll discover that you’ve gained the mastery over your body, hallelujah!
