(Learn To Release Your Emotions In Prayer!)
TO THE BIBLE: Psalm 42:1-2 NIV
“…As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God….”
LET’S TALK
Darlyn’s younger brother, Sam, started his prayer at the morning devotion thus: “O Lord God most high, thou art so great and mighty, and we thy humble creatures are so small and insignificant in thy sight.”
All this while, Darlyn had been giggling at his words. When she heard his last sentence, she couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
“Sam! God understands modern English, ok. Just pray to Him from your heart.”
Some folks are just too stiff and religious in their prayers! They think God only speaks “King James” English. For some others, when they sing a song of praise or worship, there’s hardly any expression of emotion. Don’t be that way! Be passionate with the Lord. Talk to the Lord, knowing that you’re talking to a real person who actually listens to you and feels you. Don’t pray as though God is a computer; get personal with the Lord and let your emotions be involved when you pray.
God called David a man after His own heart (Acts 13:22), and when he prayed, he poured his soul into his prayers. He was a man who knew how to pray with emotions, this is why he enjoyed such a rich fellowship with God. Same way you’ll need to ‘unwind’ yourself in the presence of the Lord. If you’re yet to experience the kind of praying where, out of love, awe, and reverence, you break down in profuse tears before the Lord, then you’re missing too much. If you haven’t prayed till you were full of the Spirit, laughing, dancing, prophesying and singing in the spirit, make up your mind to experience it!
