(Stand In The Gap For God’s People)
TO THE BIBLE: 2 Thessalonians 3:1-2 NIV
“Finally, brothers, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you. And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men, for not everyone has faith.”
It’s our priestly ministry as Christians to pray for our fellow brothers and sisters everywhere in the world, that through them, God’s Word will be preached in the all nooks and crannies of our world. Paul in his epistles, admonished believers to pray for his missionary work: “Praying at the same time for us as well, that God will open up to us a door for the word, so that we may speak forth the mystery of Christ, for which I have also been imprisoned” (Colossians 4:3 NASB). This lets us know that we also must pray that the Holy Spirit will grant God’s people utterance and opportunities to preach the gospel where they are.
There are parts of the world today where people can’t openly preach the gospel. We must pray that Christians in such places be strengthened with the might of the Spirit, and that opportunities and utterance be granted them to preach the mystery of Christ.
If every Christian would pray with this consciousness, there would be greater impact of the Word of God throughout the world. In the opening scripture, Paul also said, “…that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men, for not everyone has faith” (2 Thessalonians 3:2 NIV). The Greek word translated “delivered” is “rhuomai”; it alludes to the rushing of a current or a flood. By implication, he’s saying that God will rush to deliver His people from the clutches of wicked and unreasonable men who are against the preaching of the gospel. Get concerned about what happens to Christians around the world, and let your concern drive you to your knees in prayer.
Ephesians 6:18-20; Romans 15:30
Dear heavenly Father, I thank you for making me an intercessor, one to stand in the gap for your children all over the world. I live up to this call today, as I pray that you’ll grant utterance, boldness and opportunity to Christians all over the world to preach your Word with mighty miracles, in the Name of Jesus. Amen.
