(Serve The Lord In Your Youth)
TO THE BIBLE: Ecclesiastes 12:1-2 TLB
“Don’t let the excitement of being young cause you to forget about your Creator. Honor him in your youth before the evil years come-when you’ll no longer enjoy living. It will be too late then to try to remember him when the sun and light and moon and stars are dim to your old eyes, and there is no silver lining left among your clouds.”
LET’S TALK
“Joe, come join us in our youth choir rehearsals,” Glenn beckoned to his new friend, “You’ve got a great baritone voice.”
“Baritone? Me?” Joe queried. “Where did you get that from, Glenn?”
“Hey, I’ve heard you sing when you’re all alone and I think you would love to serve the Lord with that voice! The best place to do that would be at Church.”
“Hmm, ok. I’ll give it a try.”
Joe did give it a try and ended up becoming a committed member of the youth choir and one of their lead vocalists.
God gave His very best for us in the person of His Son Jesus, and now that we’ve come into the Kingdom, we ought to give Him the very best of our everything—our time, energy, resources etc. There’re people who say, “When I’m old and retired, then I’ll have time to serve God well and participate in church activities.” Well, the Scriptures recommend that you “Honor him in your youth…,” when you’re still young and energetic!
Your youth is the peak of your strength; that’s the time you should commit to serving the Lord. Perhaps you’re still young and in school, or in the early stages of your career—when you still have the energy and vigour to go the extra mile, that’s the best time to dedicate yourself to the Lord’s service! That’s the time you can go from street to street preaching the gospel!
I urge you to get serious with the things of God. As a young person, don’t be carried away by the glamour of career, money, fame and all the things the world dangles before you. Make up your mind to serve the Lord in the prime of your life. Remember that the Lord deserves the best, for He gave you His own best.
