TO THE BIBLE: Proverbs 4:7-9 TLB
“Getting wisdom is the most important thing you can do! And with your wisdom, develop common sense and good judgment. If you exalt wisdom, she will exalt you. Hold her fast, and she will lead you to great honor; she will place a beautiful crown upon your head.”
LET’S TALK
As God’s child, your promotion and greatness should be guided by God’s Word. Proverbs 4:7-8 says, “Getting wisdom is the most important thing you can do! And with your wisdom, develop common sense and good judgment. If you exalt wisdom, she will exalt you…” (TLB). With this, you should come to the realisation that you don’t have to be at the mercy of anyone to get God’s favour or attention to be promoted; what you need is wisdom. When you get promoted by wisdom, it’s a greater reward than what the world offers, and this wisdom is found in God’s Word (Psalm 75:6-7).
If you do a quick check on some of the great men mentioned in the Bible – Joseph, Daniel, David, Samuel, and Solomon – you’ll find they all had one common trait: they’re all men of wisdom. From their teenage years till maturity, they displayed wisdom in everything they did. Take Joseph for example: He was sold by his brothers into Egypt as a slave (Genesis 37). In the course of time, his master’s wife accused him falsely and he was imprisoned. However, God kept ensuring that Joseph stood out, even while he was in the prison until he became the head of the prisoners, because of the wisdom in him (Genesis 39:22-23).
For some years, it seemed like that would define the rest of his life. But one day, Joseph was brought before the Pharaoh and he interpreted the king’s dream. When Joseph finished speaking, the Bible records Pharaoh saying: “… Joseph… is a man who is obviously filled with the Spirit of God” (Genesis 41:38 TLB), and made Joseph second-in-command to him, ruling over the land of Egypt. If wisdom could promote a thirty-year old Hebrew prisoner to the position of Prime Minister of the most powerful empire overnight, what can’t it do for you? Give God’s Word the deserved attention and importance, and it’ll promote you and bring you to honour and glory.
