DO MORE THAN THE EXPECTED
(Your Love For People Should Get You Going The Extra Mile)
? Pastor Chris Oyakhilome;
? TO THE BIBLE
Matthew 5:41-42 NASB “Whoever forces you to go one mile, go with him two. Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you.”
◀️ LET’S TALK
God’s nature is to give exceedingly, abundantly, and in excess of what you could ever ask or think. He makes provision and adequate supply for all His children, according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). He gives in such overflowing measure. Being born again, we’ve received His divine ability to go the extra mile in our giving to others, simply because we have His nature of love in us. Love requires that you go the extra mile and do more than you have to.
Look at the request of Abraham’s servant to Rebecca in giving him some water to drink, and you’ll see she went the extra mile by offering to draw water for his camels also (Genesis 24:17-20). Also, Abraham offered the better part of the land before him to his cousin Lot (Genesis 13:5-12). In our opening verse, Jesus pointed out that even the natural man will make an extra effort to help his friend. You have to move beyond the ordinary, having the consciousness of doing everything to the glory of God. When you show love to your brother or sister in the Lord, you’re actually doing it to the Lord. Jesus said, “And anyone who gives one of my most humble followers a cup of cool water, just because that person is my follower, will surely be rewarded” (Matthew 10:42 CEV).
Your attitude should be one of doing more than is requested and expected of you; putting in extra effort and going the extra distance for others. That’s love. It gives more than is required: “And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two [miles]” (Matthew 5:41 AMPC). Learn to stretch yourself beyond the expectation of others to show them love.

? Pray
Dear Father, I’m controlled by the love of Christ that flows lavishly from my spirit. That love compels me to give more than is required of me. I thank you for the ability and inspiration you’ve given me to manifest your nature of love, and go the extra mile in blessing others, in Jesus’ Name. Amen
