CHOOSE THE SPIRIT’S WAY! (Follow The Guidance Of The Holy Spirit)
👤 Pastor Chris
📖 TO THE BIBLE
Deuteronomy 30:19 GNB “I am now giving you the choice between life and death, between God’s blessing and God’s curse, and I call heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Choose life.”
▶️ LET’S TALK
“M y daughters, return to your homelands. God bless you for being kind to me all these years,” Naomi blessed her two daughters-in-law as she prepared to return to Judah.
”But we want to go with you,” Orpah and Ruth echoed in unison.
”My daughters, go home. May God bless you with new husbands and a loving family. Remember I am old and cannot bear children for you to marry; if you stay with me, you will grow old and lonely,” Naomi maintained.
In Ruth 1:8-13, Naomi posed a very “sensible” reason why her daughters-in-law should choose to return to their parents’ house, but in verse 16, Ruth said, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God” (NIV). Ruth chose to stay with her, even when it didn’t look like the most sensible thing to do. This was because Ruth had seen how Naomi worshipped God; she had observed her life of faith and wasn’t willing to trade that for anything else.
Orpah, sadly, made the “sensible” choice to return to her. mother’s house and start her life afresh. Jewish history records that she eventually became the mother of Goliath, the Philistine giant of Gath, who was slain by David. In the end, Ruth’s choice paid off because she went on to marry a relative of Elimelech named Boaz. Boaz was the great grandfather of King David, from whose lineage Christ came.
The choices you make in life are so important, because they can either make or mar your God-ordained destiny. Some options may appear favourable or sensible at the time you’re taking them, but if you listen to the Holy Spirit, you may discover they’re not God’s choice for you. That is why you must learn, like Ruth, to choose right. Choose the way of the Spirit, and not what seems right, practical, and sensible in the sight of men.
