TO THE BIBLE: Ephesians 5:18 AMP
“And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but ever be filled and stimulated with the [Holy] Spirit.”
Did you know that the fact that you’ve received the Holy Spirit doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll always be filled with Him? Being filled with the Holy Spirit has to be a daily experience, in the same way you drink water every day. Contrary to what some people think, you don’t lose your mind when you’re filled with the Spirit. When you’re filled with the Spirit, it simply means you’re under His control twenty-four hours each day. You can’t stay filled with the Spirit and experience sickness, failure, or lack.
Now, you don’t get filled with the Spirit simply by confessing, “I’m filled with the Spirit.” There are things you do that get you filled with the Spirit. These things are listed in the nineteenth verse of Ephesians Chapter 5: “Speaking to yourselves (not others, but yourself) in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord” (KJV). This is how to be filled with the Spirit.
“Psalms” are spiritual poems sung or spoken to God in worship. “Hymns” are songs of thanksgiving and praise directed to God or about Him. “Spiritual songs” are prophetic songs of God’s Word that come to you from the realm of the spirit, sometimes in other tongues. Also, when you “make melody in your heart to God,” the melody might not sound nice to someone else who hears it, but you’ll get blessed as you sing to the Lord. Get into the habit of being constantly filled with the Spirit. Don’t leave home without doing so!
Dear Father, thank you for the wonderful gift of the Holy Spirit. I’m so glad I have the joy and privilege of being filled with the Spirit every single day of my life. Thank you for filling me even now! To you be the glory and honour forever and ever, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
