What matters is what God thinks about you.

To The Bible: Romans 6:10-12

“For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.”

LET’S TALK

The word “reckon” in Romans 6:11 is from the Greek word “logizomai”; it’s an accounting term that means “to take inventory or stock of something so as to be certain.” Just as you don’t deal with assumptions in Accounting but specific data, God doesn’t want you living by assumptions, but to be certain of your true identity.

When He says you should reckon yourself to be dead to sin, He means you should account yourself to be ungoverned by sin; that is, you’re not under sin’s dominion. Romans 6:14 says, “For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.” You’ve got to live out this reality every day, because that’s who God calls you, and He can’t be wrong!

What you may have thought about yourself doesn’t matter at all. What matters is what God thinks about you. However, for you to account yourself to be who God says you are, you’ll need to first discover what He said about you. That’s because you simply can’t function in a reality you aren’t acquainted with! This is why it’s so important that you study the Word consistently. And as you keep discovering more of yourself in the Word, count it to be exactly so and live that way forthwith.
