(Humility Doesn’t Equal Humiliation!)

“Jimmy, why did you let Jake berate you like that; honestly, you should stand up for yourself,” Besty said.
“I was trying to be humble; I didn’t think he would stop if I responded to his taunting,” Jimmy replied.
“Humility? No, you rather let yourself get humiliated. There’s a difference between the two!”
Humility is a quality of the recreated human spirit that attracts divine favour and promotion. It’s an inner ability—a vital force—which enables you to respond with absolute submissiveness to the Lordship of Jesus Christ through the Word of God. It’s often expressed in action by the willingness to take on the responsibility of service to others, in loyalty to the Word.
Being humble means you refuse to be arrogant, rude, proud and puffed up. The Lord Jesus was the epitome of humility. The Bible says He “made himself of no reputation, and…humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross” (Philippians 2:7-8). He was obedient even unto death, yet He never let anyone talk Him down! He always spoke openly about His relationship and authority with His heavenly Father. He dominated every circumstance of life where He found Himself. Even when He was brought before Pilate to be tried, He was in charge (John 19:11). He knew who He was!
So, true humility for you is to be submissive to the Lordship of the Word of God. And you’ve got to know the Word and let it guide your thoughts, your words, and all you do. That’s the way to be humble and submissive to the Word, and just as Jesus was exalted for doing the Father’s will, you too will be promoted from glory to glory!

Dear Father, thank you for enlightening me on the virtue of humility, and for showing me the importance of being humble whilst maintaining my kingly composure. I thank you for granting me more grace to excel in every endeavour as I walk in humility, in the Name of the Lord Jesus. Amen.
