The Holy Spirit Answers To A Name
Pastor Chris Oyakhilome
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” (MATTHEW 28:19)
Do you realize the Holy Spirit does answer to a specific name? We call Him Holy Spirit, but that’s not His name! ‘Holy’ is characteristic of His personality; that’s the adjective that qualifies and describes His personality; and ‘Spirit’ is what He is. So, when we call Him ‘Holy Spirit,’ what we’re saying in essence is that He’s a Spirit that is Holy.
He answers to a Name, and that’s the Name of Jesus! It’s right there in Matthew chapter 28:19; Jesus said,“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost…” Notice He didn’t say, “baptizing them in the names of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.” Rather He said “in the name,” which means the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost all answer to one Name – the Name of Jesus!
The Father loves the Son so much and has highly exalted Him and given Him a Name that is above every name. It pleased the Father that in Him (Jesus) should all fullness dwell! Jesus is the embodiment of the Godhead; the fullness of the Godhead dwells in Him bodily (Colossians 2:9). So you see, the Holy Spirit doesn’t have a name separate from Jesus; He answers to the Name of Jesus. When you call the Name of Jesus, the Holy Spirit goes into action because He answers to that Name!
