Your Spiritual Bath

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome

“You are cleansed and pruned already, because of the Word which I have given to you [the teachings I have discussed with you]” (JOHN 15:3 AMP)
One of the first things we do early every morning is to wash our bodies with soap and water, a process we call ‘bathing.’ For some, it’s unthinkable to leave home without having a bath. You don’t have to look or feel dirty before you have a bath. You’re always in contact with particles and germs in the air around you that you can’t see with your eyes. They get on your body without your invitation and make you feel sticky and dirty as they accumulate. They could even be harmful to your health if left unwashed. So you bathe to wash them off your body and then you’re fresh all over.

Now, it’s the same thing spiritually! You may not have done or said anything wrong but doubt, fear and unbelief rub off on you as you relate with people every day. This is why you need to have a spiritual bath often. When I counsel people, many of them voice unbelief as they relate their problems, so I go back and spend some time studying and declaring the Word to cleanse myself of all I’ve heard.

The Bible says that Christ sanctifies and cleanses the Church “… with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish” (Ephesians 5:26-27). This means God bathes His Church with His Word! Every time you read and meditate on the Scriptures, you’re having a spiritual bath; you’re being purified spiritually. Never leave your house without a spiritual bath. And don’t just fall into bed and sleep off every time you get back from work; spend some time in the Word! Make God’s Word a priority today, and your life will flourish beyond what you could ever imagine.
