KEEP AWAY FROM LYING

TO THE BIBLE: Colossians 3:9-10 NIV

“Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.”

LET’S TALK

A liar is someone who says something contrary to God’s Word. The Bible says, ‘Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. As it is written: “That You may be justified in Your words, and may overcome when You are judged”’ (Romans 3:4). As long as a man’s confessions are inconsistent with God’s Word, even if he’s unaware of it, he’s speaking lies. For example, the Word says in Romans 5:1-2: “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” If you’re born again, you must accept and walk in His righteousness. If one keeps saying, “No one can really be righteous before God,” that would be a lie, because it’s inconsistent with what God has said.

1 Peter 3:10 tells us something instructive: ‘For “He who would love life and see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking deceit.”’ You can’t be speaking God’s Word, and at the same time lying. That’s a contradiction. One who deceives others never realizes his own deception. He suddenly “wakes up” and discovers life has passed him by. He doesn’t deserve truth because he doesn’t tell the truth.

If you’re a person of truth, truth will promote and protect you. The Bible says, “He (God) shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler” (Psalm 91:4). Form a habit of speaking the truth always; this doesn’t just mean desisting from unwholesome communication, but speaking in consonance with the Word. That’s a key principle on how to prosper and have good days.
