TO THE BIBLE: Proverbs 22:29 AMP
“Do you see a man diligent and skillful in his business? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.”
LET’S TALK
There was a certain lad who came from a poor home and lacked the opportunity of going to school. His family lived in a slum, so he was surrounded by destitute folks like him, poor boys and girls without hope for a better future. But he was good at playing soccer, so he thought to himself: If I can train hard enough and become a successful footballer, I can help change many lives around here.
And so, he went out to look for a coach who could help him achieve his dream. The man he found asked him, “Are you ready to put in all it takes to become a great footballer?” He was positive. Then the coach said, “Alright, we’ll start tomorrow. Be here by 4:30 a.m.” The next morning, the lad was there before 4:30 a.m. Wow, he must be very serious, the coach thought. He asked him to run around the field, and for a long time that was all he did. In fact, he kept running around the field every day for the first one month without setting his eyes on a soccer ball. But he was grateful to the coach each day.
Years later, the lad became one of the greatest soccer stars in the world. His story helps us see the gain of discipline; he was willing to wake up early every morning and persevere through rigorous training. What’s your dream today? If you’d give yourself to discipline, you can achieve it.
